I don’t think this is related, as ch1-16 and ch17-32 are actually 2 different outputs.
Your thought about “ch17-23 is ch1-6 of sbus2” should be correct.
You may also try to connect the sbus 2 connector to the autopilot RCIN, and see if the rollwheel signal is coming in.
