We’ve tried so many combinations and followed tutorials online but getting nowhere:
Try the beta latest build of QGC and not the public. They have a daily build if I recall.
What colour cube is this ? Of orange or yellow you will need to beta on my experience.

I ran into the same issue. The solution was to use Mission Planner. I had some grief also with Parallels. It tended to be intermittent. I used a native Windows 10 machine with Mission Planner which worked each time.
