Herelink Reboot in flight

Posting a bug report from a herelink that rebooted mid flight and triggered RTL. I am trying to determine what may have gone wrong (hardware or user error??) to avoid this happening again.

Summary of events on 2025-08-05

I was doing a test of the quad at approximately 3:30pm 2025-08-05.
The weather was a cool overcast day. 77F and no sun. I really do not think this is an overheat issue.

Started the herelink
Powered Aircraft
Turned on the hotspot and connected mission planner
Turned on the herelink video in the Mission planner hud

This part may be irrelevant to the issue but including it to be thorough

  • Used Mission planner to create a small survey pattern over the parking lot.

  • Wrote the mission to the aircraft and read it back.

  • Took off in loiter checked yaw, pitch and roll controls.

  • Used mission planner to activate AUTO mode.

  • The aircraft flew the first flight line but then rather than moving to the second seemed to constantly traverse the first line vs moving to line 2,3, etc.

  • I thought this was odd so I landed, rewrote the mission to try again.

  • Armed, switched to auto using Mission Planner but it did the same thing, way point 1 to 3 then back to 1

  • Determined in log review this was a smart RTL triggered by a fence breach.

  • Changed to loiter for manual flight

Flew manually in Loiter and passed the hand unit off to a second pilot. He flew for maybe a minute then the aircraft started to rise and he wasn’t sure why. I took the hand unit back and tried to change to loiter, alt hold etc. No response. This is when I noticed the screen was blank and the handset was rebooting. The aircraft was rising to RTL level, flew home and landed as it should. The hand unit had rebooted before the RTL finished but I let RTL run its course and did not try to take control back again.

Log shows Err: Radio-2 and Err Failsafe Radio-1 just before 15:56

I though maybe the battery had died but after rebooting it showed over 90%

I believe the mission issue may be a separate problem but included that anyway. I have not gone through the flight log yet to see if I can see why it behaved that way.

I have never had this issue before.

The here link was purchased Dec 1 2024

Bug report is here:

I have the same issue with more than four Herelink units.
It seems like a bug in the software! One of the Herelink units reboots two or three times a day during a five-hour operation.
Are you using QGC or MP on the Herelink?
I have 4 Point on my list!

  1. Try using another DC converter.

  2. Install the newest version of QGC.

  3. Try flying with Solex.

  4. Connect the Herelink to a hotspot from a laptop to avoid overheating issues.

I was using QGC on the herelink and MP on a laptop.

When you say try using a different DC converter what is that for? I charged the here link and it was running off its own battery. Are you powering it some other way?

I have thee nwest QGC on the herelink

I have not tried Solex but can.

Not sure my laptop can be a hotspot. The herelink was the hotspot and my laptop connected to that.

Why do you think it is software? Are the here links that you have that are not rebooting running a different version of something?
