I have a mini carrier board mounted on a 700 size helicopter with all the servos directly connected to the servo rail. I’m feeding the servo rail with a 7.5v power supply which is within specs according to this link. However, there’s no mention of the max continious current for the servo rail. This is a large heli and I want to make sure the servo rail can handle large current surges. Anyone knows what’s the safe current rate?
The pins of typical servo connectors are rated at 3 amps each.
So really you can only get 3 amps in from your BEC, unless you use multiple pins for power input. And you can only get 3 amps to each servo.
I suspect the connection between power and ground pins would be able to handle instantaneous currents of maybe 10 amps, but that’s more of a guess.
Some custom external arrangement might be a good idea for carrying all the current.
