Issues with Here 4 Firmware Update and u-center Access

I have been working on updating the firmware for my Here 4 GPS module and I’m running into some difficulties. I followed the instructions provided but I seem to be missing something crucial.

Here is what I have done so far:

  • Downloaded the latest firmware file from the CubePilot website.
  • Used Mission Planner to attempt the firmware update.

However, the update process fails midway and I can’t seem to figure out why. Additionally I am trying to access the module using u-center for some custom configurations, but I am having trouble connecting it properly.

Could anyone guide me on the correct steps for the firmware update? Also, any tips on how to ensure a stable connection with u-center would be greatly appreciated.

@miaco can you share screenshot/videos displaying the issue. Have you tried connection over MAVLINK-CAN1 instead of SLCAN?

    Try using the Here GNSS tools (instead of Mission Planner) for a more reliable firmware update. You might need to put the module in bootloader mode by holding the button while powering it up, then use the Here Firmware Update Tool for better control over the process.
  2. u-center Connection:
    Make sure you have the right COM port selected in u-center. Sometimes Windows might assign the wrong one.
    Check that the baud rate in u-center matches the settings of your module (usually 115200 or 9600, depending on the configuration).

Firmware update failures on the Here 4 often relate to port selection or power issues. Try using MP’s SiK Radio firmware tool with the correct COM port, and make sure no other apps are connected during the update.

For u-center, ensure you’re using the right baud rate (typically 38400 or 115200)** and USB/serial adapter. Restart u-center after connecting the module.

If it still fails, try using CubePilot’s HerePro tool if supported.
